Over the last 40 years we have seen tremendous growth in community services, self-advocacy and awareness.˜ This progress would not have been possible without the courage and determination of parents and family members who sought a better life for their children.˜ In the Avenues Supported Living tradition of story telling, this session will focus on the role of our family and how we got to where we are with their encouragement and support.. OBJECTIVES:1. Participants will learn how parental and family advocacy have helped to pave the way for community services over the past 40+ years. 2. Participants will learn how community service options have developed and changed for the better as a result of parent & family advocacy. 3. Self Advocates and Family Members will share their personal stories on how family advocacy and support has made a difference in their lives
