Shared Versus Guided Reading for Students with Significant Disabilities: What?s the Difference LIMITED

Shared and guided reading are both important approaches to literacy instruction. While these names sound similar, the approaches have different goals that are appropriate for different levels of readers. This session will focus on defining and explaining shared and guided reading and the evidence that supports their relevance to literacy development. Videos of teachers and students with significant disabilities engaging in shared and guided reading will be used to demonstrate how both can be used with students with significant disabilities who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Instructional resources and supports will be shared. OBJECTIVES: 1. Describe the goal of shared reading. 2. Describe the goal of guided reading. 3. Describe the key features of Anchor-Read-Apply. 4. Describe the key features of the CROWD in the CAR.
