With the passage of the ABLE Act individuals with disabilities will be able to save for their future without jeopardizing their eligibility for federally funded means tested programs/supports/services. While the passage of the federal legislation was a significant accomplishment, states are now responsible for passing their own ABLE legislation in order to begin development and implementation. It is vital that state and local disability advocacy groups understand the details and intent of the new law in order to develop state programs in an effective manner.
