Limited Capacity filling up

Discovery has emerged as a qualitative alternative to comparative vocational assessment as a guide to matching and customizing individuals with significant disabilities to community, integrated employment. The default position of Discovery is that individual's lives contain sufficient richness so as to guide the pursuit of employment and guide the vocational planning process. However, it is too often the case that individuals with significant intellectual and development disabilities have been denied these rich life opportunities. This session will explore how internships, post-secondary educational experiences and structured life activities may be used to augment this lack of experience. OBJECTIVES: Understand the distinction between initial discovery and expanded discovery. Understand the importance of a "no fail" value for expanded discovery. Identify the options available for expanded discovery. Understand how to blend the findings of expanded discovery into a plan for customized employment.
